Membership states, explained
An application to NODA Social Impact Foundation or to IOTA Field moves through a small number of states, each recorded by a named reviewer. This page lists them all. Every message we send about your application names your current state and links to its explanation here.
Invited

Somebody in the community has invited you to apply. Nothing has been recorded about you beyond the address the invitation was sent to.
Application received

Your application has arrived and is waiting to be read by a person.
Candidate

A reviewer has accepted your application for assessment. You are a candidate: known to the community, and being assessed.
Trial

You are in an agreed trial: a bounded period, with a mentor or reviewer, in which evidence of participation and contribution is gathered.
Approved

A named reviewer has approved your membership or contributor relationship with this organisation, on the evidence recorded.
Paused

Your relationship with this organisation is paused. Your history is kept in full; nothing has been deleted.
Not approved

A reviewer has decided not to approve the application at this time, and has recorded the reason.
Expired

The period this state covered — a trial, an invitation or a term — has ended without being renewed.
Withdrawn

The application or relationship has been withdrawn — by you, or because a consent it depended on was withdrawn.
Two roots, recorded separately
NODA Social Impact Foundation (the non-profit community) and IOTA Sustainable Developers Canada (the company that contracts IOTA Field engagements) are separate, equal organisations. A person may hold a relationship with either or both, and each relationship has its own state, its own reviewer and its own messages.
Trials
A trial is assigned one of the bands T1, T3, T6, T9. The band, the scope, the start and end dates, the mentor or reviewer and the evidence expected are all written in the trial message itself. A trial never activates membership on its own.
Membership states are not the same thing as the steps of the 3×3 journey. A journey step records evidence of growth. It does not by itself create membership, a role, system access, a vote, ownership, equity, employment or any financial entitlement. Each of those is decided separately, by the people and bodies responsible for it, under their own rules.
