Privacy Notice

Version 2 · Last updated: August 16, 2026

Our principle: minimum data

NODA is built privacy-by-design. We collect the minimum data needed to run the community, keep it only as long as needed, and never turn it into a product. Your data is never sold, and never shared with advertisers or data brokers.

What we collect

When you apply, we collect what you give us: your name, email, optional phone number, city, the level and role you're interested in, your message, and your preferred communication language.

When you browse, we collect standard, privacy-friendly usage analytics (page views and performance) through Vercel Analytics — without advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

Identity documents are not collected in Version 1. If you later apply for levels that require identity verification, that verification will come with its own specific notice at the time.

How we use it

Application data is used to review your application, contact you about it, and — if you're admitted — set up your participation at the right level. Contact details are used for the communications you'd expect from a community: application decisions, onboarding, and event announcements relevant to your level.

The Wall newsletter

Subscribing to the Wall collects one thing: your email address. We use it for two purposes and no others — to keep the archive open to you when you return, and to send you new posts when we publish them, a few times a month at most. We do not profile you, we do not advertise to you, and we never sell, rent or pass your address to anyone.

The legal basis is your consent, which you give by subscribing and then confirming from the link we email you. We record the moment you confirmed, because that record is the only honest proof that you asked to be here. You can withdraw at any time from the link at the foot of every email; withdrawal takes effect immediately, the link never expires, and we do not ask you why. Your address is kept until you withdraw or ask us to delete it.

Confirming also sets a cookie in your browser so you stay signed in to the archive for six months. It exists only to keep you signed in — it does not follow you to other sites, and there is no advertising cookie anywhere on noda.community.

Where it lives and who sees it

Member profiles, articles, the Wall and its subscriber list are held in NODA's own PostgreSQL database, hosted in the Netherlands. Applications and parts of the working record are still in our content-management system (Notion), and email is delivered through our email provider (Resend); both are US companies, so that data is transferred outside the EU under the standard contractual clauses in their processor agreements. These processors act on our instructions and on nobody else's. The site itself runs on Vercel. Within NODA, access is limited to the small team that needs it.

Your choices

You can ask us at any time to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, hand you a copy of it, or delete it entirely. One email is enough: info@noda.community. We answer within thirty days and we do not charge for it.

If you think we have handled your data badly, tell us first — we would rather fix it than be reported for it. But you are entitled to go over our heads, and you should know that: in Europe, to your national data protection authority; in Canada, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. Using that right costs you nothing here.

Who is responsible

NODA is the controller of the data described in this notice, and info@noda.community reaches the people who can actually do something about it.

Changes

If this notice changes materially, we announce it the same way as changes to the Terms — at least 30 days in advance.
