The 3×3 Journey
From Member to Contributor to Field Maker
The 3×3 Journey describes how participation can deepen over time — from discovering the community, to contributing to real work, to helping create and sustain spaces where others can contribute too. There is no requirement to move through all nine steps. Each step simply reflects a different depth of participation, contribution and responsibility.
A journey, not a ladder
The nine steps describe different depths of participation — not status or human worth. People may contribute meaningfully at any step, stay where they are, move deeper over time, or pause when life and capacity change.
Growth is evidenced and reviewed
Progress is based on real participation and contribution — not payment, popularity or self-declaration. Where review is needed, it should rely on appropriate evidence, be transparent, and remain open to correction.
Rights are decided separately
A journey step does not automatically grant governance, financial, contractual or system rights. Roles, access and decision authority are granted separately, with appropriate consent, responsibility and accountability.

Steps 1–3

Steps one to three are about discovering, joining and participating. A Member can explore NODA, connect with people, attend events, learn and take part in community activities. Only the information needed for participation and consent is recorded.
Steps 4–6

Contributor Profile
Steps four to six are about creating real value with others. A Contributor brings time, knowledge, skills, services, resources or other forms of contribution into a project, initiative or Tribe. As responsibility grows, roles, capacity and meaningful contributions can be recorded and verified.

Field Maker Profile
Steps seven to nine are about creating the conditions for others to contribute and grow. A Field Maker leads with a clear mandate, builds capacity beyond their own contribution, and helps sustain people, projects and communities over time. Greater responsibility brings clearer decision boundaries, accountability and ongoing review.
What your journey level does — and does not — mean
A journey level records a depth of participation, contribution and responsibility. It does not determine human worth, and it does not automatically create membership rights, governance authority, system access, ownership, equity, employment or financial entitlement. These are governed separately under their own rules.
Beyond step nine
The field-scale story
The human 3×3 Journey ends at Step Nine. Beyond it, the story continues at the scale of fields rather than individual people — describing how communities, projects and fields connect, learn, complete cycles and begin again. These are not higher human levels and create no automatic rights, authority, ownership or economic entitlement. A Field Maker may begin a new cycle at a larger scale as the field itself grows.

Ten commitments that guide every step
- 1Consent comes before personal data is recorded, shared, processed by AI or made publicly visible.
- 2Human dignity is equal. Journey levels reflect participation and responsibility — never human worth.
- 3Trust and real participation come before deeper responsibility, access or representation.
- 4Only the minimum information necessary for a clear and legitimate purpose is collected and shared.
- 5Roles, responsibilities, decision rights and expectations are made clear.
- 6Meaningful contribution can be evidenced, acknowledged and reviewed. Recognition grows from real participation, not status claims.
- 7Membership, contribution or journey level does not automatically create ownership, equity, governance authority, employment, investment or financial entitlement.
- 8NODA’s community and social-impact activities remain distinct from IOTA Field’s commercial and professional activities, with appropriate agreements, budgets and records.
- 9Commitments, permissions and roles are defined, revisable and periodically reviewed.
- 10AI may assist with organizing, learning, drafting and coordination; people remain accountable for consequential decisions and commitments.
