🗳 West Vancouver Mayoral Candidate Matrix — v0.2 September 26, 2026

Using the updated IOTA Field Civic Candidate Matrix v0.2, we have completed our current assessment of the four candidates for Mayor of West Vancouver.

The assessment uses the same nine weighted dimensions published earlier, including governance and integrity, fiscal and organizational stewardship, housing, infrastructure, community partnership, and the newly strengthened Leadership, Execution & Mobilization dimension.

Current Results

🥇 Sharon Thompson — 86/100 | Confidence A

🥈 Kirk LaPointe — 85/100 | Confidence A−

🥉 Mark Sager — 71/100 | Confidence A

Joe Spears — 68/100 | Confidence B−

The one-point difference between Thompson and LaPointe should be considered a near tie, rather than a meaningful statistical difference.

Sharon Thompson currently scores particularly well in municipal experience, housing and planning, infrastructure, and practical leadership/execution.

Kirk LaPointe scores particularly well in governance, accountability, fiscal stewardship, community engagement and future readiness, while having less direct municipal-government experience.

Mark Sager scores strongly in experience, execution and political mobilization. However, his Governance & Integrity score is materially affected by the documented Law Society of BC disciplinary record, including admitted professional misconduct and a two-year prohibition from practising law. This is verified evidence rather than campaign commentary.

Joe Spears has a much stronger professional and operational background than our initial review suggested, particularly in maritime law, safety, emergency response, policy and public/private-sector work. His current score reflects comparatively less evidence available on West Vancouver-specific municipal policy rather than a lack of professional experience.

They represent our current assessment based on the evidence available today and will continue to be tested against upcoming candidate forums, public records, direct discussions and community input.
