🗳 West Vancouver Municipal Election 2026 | A Civic Governance Experiment

West Vancouver’s 2026 municipal election is shaping up to be an unusually competitive one.

At IOTA Field, we’re taking this opportunity to continue and evolve a civic governance experiment we began during previous elections:

Can we evaluate candidates through a transparent, evidence-based and continuously improving process — rather than relying primarily on campaign messaging, endorsements or personal impressions?

We are beginning an independent assessment of the candidates for Mayor and Council across nine dimensions:

1. Governance, Integrity & Accountability
2. Organizational & Fiscal Stewardship
3. Housing, Planning & Responsible Growth
4. Infrastructure, Mobility & Intelligent Transportation
5. Community Empowerment & Civic Partnership
6. Leadership, Execution & Mobilization
7. Local Economy, Innovation & Future Readiness
8. Community Well-being & Civic Life
9. Environment & Long-Term Resilience

Each assessment will also include an Evidence Confidence Level.

Limited public information does not mean a candidate is weak. Likewise, a polished campaign or strong website does not automatically translate into governing capacity.

Over the coming weeks, we plan to attend as many of West Vancouver’s All Candidates Meetings as possible, review candidate platforms and public records, collect questions and answers, and continuously update the assessment as new evidence becomes available.

For incumbent candidates, we will also look beyond campaign promises toward their demonstrated record and decisions in office.

This is therefore a living assessment — not a final ranking or endorsement.

We also invite the community to participate.

If you have relevant information about any candidate — interviews, public statements, voting records, professional background, firsthand experience or other verifiable sources — please share it with us.

We also welcome your feedback on the model itself: what should we measure, what might we be missing, and how can the assessment be improved?

Supportive and critical information are equally welcome.

What matters is the evidence.

The objective is bigger than choosing candidates.

It is an experiment in whether citizens can build a better collective understanding of local governance, leadership and accountability — and continue learning from it after Election Day.
